RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, William R. Anixter has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 92; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, William R. Anixter was a widely admired member of the business community and the loving husband of Nancy and the late Barbara; and
WHEREAS, William R. Anixter was the much-adored father of Greg, Julie, Carol, Amy, Mari and Jason and the grandfather of seven to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, A native of Chicago, William R. Anixter served his country as a member of the United States Army during World War II and graduated from Northwestern University; and
WHEREAS, Along with his brother, Alan, William R. Anixter co-founded the electrical industry's largest wire and cable specialty distributor; and
WHEREAS, The company, now known as Anixter International, grew to include more than 100 global locations before it was sold to Sam Zell in 1986; and
WHEREAS, William R. Anixter fostered a family atmosphere in his company which was dedicated to producing high-quality service to its customers; and
WHEREAS, William R. Anixter later served as Chairman of the Board of Northbrook-based A-Z Wire & Cable; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of William R. Anixter serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared William R. Anixter to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, William R. Anixter was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, William R. Anixter imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
