CONGRATULATIONS EXTENDED TO DARLENE E. MCLENDON ON RETIREMENT AS PRINCIPAL OF NORTHSIDE LEARNING CENTER.
WHEREAS, Darlene E. McLendon, who worked to develop a strong functional academic curriculum and network of community-based programs, for "The Best School in the Universe", is retiring as Principal of the Northside Learning Center; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this occasion by The Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Darlene E. McClendon, an advocate for all students with special needs, has devoted forty-one years to students with special needs in Chicago Public Schools; and
WHEREAS, Darlene E. McClendon, began her career in 1970 as an English teacher at Jesse Spalding High School for Students with Physical Disabilities, continued there as a teacher, counselor, and Assistant Principal for twenty-one years before becoming Principal of Northside Learning Center in 1992; and
WHEREAS, Darlene E. McClendon, coordinated the Peer Intervention Program and the Strategic Teaching Project for all District 11 Chicago Public High Schools; and
WHEREAS, Darlene E. McClendon, mother of Andrew (Rosalia) Bochantin and Aran (Pacito) Robles, "Grammy" of Marijke, Caitlin and Natalie Bochantin and Ruben Robles; has worked to support all Chicago Public School Principals through her service on the Executive Board of the Chicago Principals and Administrators Association; and
WHEREAS, The leaders of this great City of Chicago are cognizant of the great debt owed our educators; now therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this eighth day of June, 2011, do hereby express our gratitude and heartiest congratulations to Darlene E. McClendon as she retires and we extend to this fine citizen our very best wishes for her continuing success and fulfillment; and
