RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, In the year 2018, the Republic of Iceland celebrated its 100^th Anniversary as a free and sovereign state; and

WHEREAS, On December 1,1918, the Kingdom of Iceland was formally established through the signing of the Danish-Icelandic Act of the Union; and

WHEREAS, Iceland was declared an independent nation; and

WHEREAS, Chicago shares a friendship with the people of the Republic of Iceland based on a shared embrace of mutual values; and now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-third day of January, 2019, hereby officially commemorate the 100^th Anniversary of sovereignty of the Republic of Iceland; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Honorary Consulate General of the Republic of Iceland in Chicago.
