RESOLUTION CELEBRATING THE RETIREMENT OF KARREN RAY
WHEREAS, Karren Ray will retire as Principal of Northside Learning Center at the end ofthe 2021-2022 school year; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of Karren's retirement by the Honorable Samantha Nugent, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Principal Karren Ray has been in education for 45 years beginning her work in 1977, serving in non-profits;
WHEREAS, Karren became a special education teacher for Chicago Public Schools in 1992 at Darwin Elementary School, then moved to the district's Office of Specialized Services for 10 years;
WHEREAS, Karren proudly became the assistant principal at Northside Learning Center in 2011; and
WHEREAS, Principal Ray became Principal of Northside Learning Center in 2018 where she secured grants from Chicago Public Schools used to renovate the Northside Learning Center greenhouse and received money from the nonprofit Chicago Cares and Discover to build the Northside Learning Center a sensory garden; and
WHEREAS, Principal Ray's dedication to the students at Northside Learning Center is reflected in her actions of fostering an environment that focused on aiding her students in becoming confident and independent in their communities; and
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and member of the City Council of the City of Chicago gathered here this twenty-second day of June, 2022, do hereby express our gratitude for the service of Principal Karren Ray and extend our congratulations on her retirement; and
