RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Jennifer O. Maddox was named a CNN Hero on March 30, 2017; and
WHEREAS, CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute is a television special created by CNN to honor individuals who make extraordinary contributions to humanitarian aid and make a difference in their communities; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this recognition by the Honorable Anthony A. Beale, Alderman of the 9lh Ward; and
WHEREAS, Jennifer was born and raised in the Roseland community on the South side of Chicago. She graduated from Corliss High School and received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Illinois at Chicago Circle Campus. She received her MBA from St. Xavier University and is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in education with a concentration in Community Programs at Lewis University; and
WHEREAS, Jennifer Maddox has served the Chicago Police Department for 20 years. She has played an integral role in the Chicago Police Department CAPS Program and is a former police liaison officer for the 5th District Police Explorers Program; and
WHEREAS, She also works as a Community Engagement Instructor for the Chicago Police Department and partakes in the Bridging the Divide program which aims to connect youth with the police; and
WHEREAS, Jennifer launched Future Ties in 2011, an afterschool program for the children living in Parkway Garden Homes on the South Side of Chicago. The nonprofit organization created a free and safe space for more than 100 children from kindergarten to 5th grade to learn and grow. It provides academic support, life skills training, and mentorship to the children. Jennifer hopes to reach all 1,200 children who live in the complex and provide them with a sense of belonging; and
WHEREAS, Officer Maddox has dedicated her entire career to making a difference in the lives of many young people; now, therefore,
