RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, James O'Grady, a decorated Commander of the Chicago Police Department's Narcotics Unit, has announced his retirement following twenty-eight years of dedicated service; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward. M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, James O'Grady will leave the Chicago Police Department to become the new Police Chief of the Village of Harwood Heights; and
 
WHEREAS, James O'Grady will be officially sworn in as the northwest suburb's new Police Chief on December 2, 2013; and
 
WHEREAS, James O'Grady will bring to this position a wealth of talent and experience as a veteran member of the law enforcement community; and
 
WHEREAS, James O'Grady will seek to make the village safer by promoting drug and gang education initiatives in the schools and enhancing officer training opportunities; and
 
WHEREAS, James O'Grady began his police career as a patrol officer and rose through the ranks to become Sergeant, Lieutenant and Commander of the Narcotics Unit in 2008; and
 
WHEREAS, While serving on the police force James O'Grady graduated from John Marshall Law School and taught high school; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of James O'Grady serve as an example to all; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-sixth day of November, 2013, do hereby express our sincere appreciation to James O'Grady on his dedicated service to the City of Chicago and do hereby express our best wishes for his success as the Police Chief of the Village of Harwood Heights; and
 
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to James O'Grady.
