TRIBUTE TO ANTOINETTE JEFFERSON
WHEREAS, In His Infinite Wisdom, Almighty God has granted eternal peace to Antoinette Jefferson, an outstanding citizen and member of her community; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of her passing by the Honorable Carrie M. Austin, Alderman ofthe 34th Ward and Chairman ofthe Committee on Budget and Government Operations; and
WHEREAS, Antoinette Jefferson was born to the union of Earl and Lillian Jefferson, Jr. on May 17, 1949 on Chicago's West Side. She attended Farragut High School during the same time as Richard Slaughter, and they married. Upon ending the marriage, she returned to the South Side to live and be closer to family; and
WHEREAS, Antoinette enjoyed much of her working life, including positions she held with a Jewish Synagogue and the Chicago Tribune newspaper. Gateway Substance Abuse Center in Springfield, Illinois also stood out as a favorite. It was there she met her second husband, Winston Ward. Antoinette and Winston relocated to Chicago's North Side, but Antoinette would later divorce and again relocate to the South Side; and
WHEREAS, Antoinette was reared a Christian from an early age, she attended Mount Zion First Holy Miracle Baptist Church in her adulthood. Antoinette would testify to others about her faith. She was called home by the Father on July 19, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Antoinette was preceded in death by her parents; siblings Earl Jefferson, III and Alexis Harrison; uncle John Menefee; aunt Evelyn Louise Lewis; nephew and niece-in-law Lamont and Lillian Harrison; and great-nephew Darius Garritt; and
WHEREAS, Antoinette is survived by her children Tandolayo (Clarence) Hill, LaShawn (Flora) Slaughter and Misty Slaughter; siblings LaShawn (Twanda) Jefferson, Sr., Jetun and Alecia Jefferson; grandchildren Dallas Hill, Shatorria Yowe, Aysia Slaughter; and a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; and other" beloved friends and family members; and
