RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, John D. "Jack" Ahern has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 86; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Naperville, John D. "Jack" Ahern was a retired Captain with the Chicago Fire Department and the loving husband of Linda, nee Allegretti; and
WHEREAS, John D. "Jack" Ahern was the much-adored father of seven children and three step-children, the grandfather of sixteen and the great-grandfather of four to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, A native of Chicago, John D. "Jack" Ahern was born on June 10, 1929, and served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War; and
WHEREAS, John D. "Jack" Ahern was a Deputy State Fire Marshal; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his long and illustrious career, John D. "Jack" Ahern upheld the finest and most noble tradition of public service; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of John D. "Jack" Ahern serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared John D. "Jack" Ahern to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, John D. "Jack" Ahern was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, John D. "Jack" Ahern imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-fourth day of September 2015, do hereby commemorate John D. "Jack" Ahern for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
