REOLUTION HONORING TIMOTHY DIXON
WHEREAS, Timothy Dixon was among the honorees at the Twenty-First Annual Mayfair Salute to American Heroes on November 6, 2022; and
WHEREAS, This body was informed of that honor by Alderman Samantha Nugent; and
WHEREAS, Timothy was born in Topeka, Kansas on December 19,1952, to Richard Paul and Angie Cordelia Dixon. After his father died when Timothy was 14 years old, he and his mother came to Chicago, then moved to Arlington Heights, where Timothy graduated from Arlington High School and then attended Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, Missouri; and
WHEREAS, After school, Timothy enlisted in the Army. Timothy was sent to Fort Ord, volunteered for Airborne training, and went to Ft. Benning. In June of 1972, Timothy arrived at Tan Sun Nhut AFB and went to Long Binh and was assigned to Charlie Company 87th Infantry Division. Timothy volunteered to serve in the infantry as security for the prestigious First Aviation Brigade, F Troop, 8th Cavalry Unit, known as the "Blue Ghosts", and was one of eight infantrymen selected; and

WHEREAS, Timothy rose to the rank of Specialist 4 in eight months, and was a trained mortar specialist and an expert with the M60 machine gun and .45 pistol, and an RTO and squad leader. Timothy's Military Occupational Specialty was 11 C 20-lndirect Fire Crewman; and

WHEREAS, Timothy's awards include The Combat Infantry Badge, Army Commendation Medal for Extraordinary Service with Citation, Overseas Service Bar, Vietnamese Campaign Ribbon with '60 device, National Defense Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Unit Citation Palm, and the Vietnamese Service Medal with Gold Star; and

WHEREAS, Timothy was honorably discharged on September 6,1973, returned home and later met Theresa Jo Cretilli, who would become his wife of 34 years until her passing in 2012. Timothy's beautiful family is anchored by his two daughters, Jennifer and Michelle, son-in-law Erik, and his grandson Finn Martin; and
