Memorial Resolution for Patricia (Pat) Anne Burton
WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that the members of this chamber learned of the departure of Patricia (Pat) Anne Burton on February 6, 2017; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed body has been notified of her passing by the Honorable Emma Mitts, Alderman of the 37th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Patricia Burton was born on May 14,1956, to Ruthie Lee Murphy (Edgerton) and James Hamilton, in Orlando, Florida; and
WHEREAS, She moved to the West Side of Chicago at a young age, where she lived for the rest of her life. Pat attended Mason Elementary School and Farragut High School; and
WHEREAS, Patricia married Joseph Rice Sr. They had two children: Meka and Joseph. Pat remarried Bernard Burton. They were married for twenty-three years at the time of her death; and
WHEREAS, Patricia Anne Burton confessed her life to Christ at an early age. She was a faithful member of Pleasant Ridge Missionary Baptist Church. She later joined New Mt. Moriah M.B. Church. Her final church was Living Word Christian Center where she received her Ministerial Training Diploma. She served on the Nurses Board, Young Adult Choir, Usher Board, Evangelist Team and Missionary Outreach; and
WHEREAS, Pat was a dedicated worker at the Northwest Home for the Aging for nineteen years, retiring when her health began to decline, eventually requiring a lung transplant in 2014. She was a classy, sassy woman who needed to have everything in her life neat and organized. She had a tremendous love of family and god and was truly thankful for her second chance at life after the transplant; and
WHEREAS, Patricia Burton leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Bernard Burton; one son, Joseph Rice Jr.; one daughter, Meka (Donald) Hamilton-Dukes; two stepdaughters, Roslyn Earl and Sade Eubanks; three stepsons, Cony Earl, Antonio Earl and Kevin Earl; two sisters, Diane (James) Isom and Shirley Clayton; two brothers, Dempsey Hamilton and Derrick (Lacrecia) Hamilton; eleven grandchildren, ...
