Ordinance Designating 1000 through 1100 blocks of West Albion Avenue as Honorary "Margaret Hartigan Way"
WHEREAS, Margaret Hartigan led a life full of family, community and civic leadership; and
WHEREAS, Born in New York in 1940, Mrs. Hartigan married Neil Hartigan in 1962 after having graduated from Rosemont College, they then moved to the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago where she spent much of her adult life; and
WHEREAS, Margaret and Neil had a son, John, and daughters, Elizabeth Connelly, Laura Jenkins and Bridget Routh, whom they raised in their home on Albion Avenue, just steps from Lake Michigan; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Hartigan was a tireless civic leader working on important issues in the Rogers Park neighborhood, across Chicago, as well as with national organizations, including the Rogers Park Community Council, St Ignatius Glenola Club, the 49th Ward Democratic Party, Boys and Girls Club of Chicago, the Service Club of Chicago, Museum of Science and Industry board, Children's Memorial Hospital board, Chicago Community Trust executive committee, Chicago Symphony Orchestra board, Field Museum board, Lincoln Park Zoo board, Harris Theater board, Chicago Cancer Society, the Lt. Governor and Attorney General Wives Association, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, as well as the boards of Northwestern University, Loyola University, DePaul University, Mundelein College, Georgetown University, Rosemont College, Sacred Heart Schools, St. Ignatius college Prep, and St. Scholastica High School; and
WHEREAS, Following a rich life of family, community and civic leadership Margaret Hartigan passed away on June 28, 2003; and .
