At the request of the Commissioner of Housing, I transmit herewith an ordinance extending the duration of the Near North, Near West and Milwaukee Corridor pilot affordable requirements ordinances.

ORDINANCE
WHEREAS, The City of Chicago (the "City") is a home rule unit of government pursuant to Article VII, Section 6(a) of the 1970 State of Illinois Constitution; and
WHEREAS, Pursuant to its home rule power, the City may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs, including the power to regulate for the protection of the public health, safety, morals and welfare; and
WHEREAS, The adoption of Section 2-44-080 (the "2015 ARO") ofthe Municipal Code ofthe City of Chicago (the "Code") and Sections 2-44-090 and 2-44-100 ofthe Code, which established, respectively, the Near North/Near West Pilot Area and the Milwaukee Corridor Pilot Area (together, the "Pilot Areas"), was in response to affordable housing issues that are on-going; and,
WHEREAS, the 2015 ARO is currently undergoing significant revisions that will not be complete prior to the current December 31, 2020 expiration of Sections 2-44-090 and 2-44-100 of the Code; and
WHEREAS, In order to prevent the exacerbation of the affordable housing issues in the Pilot Areas after the current expiration date and before the adoption of the revised 2015 ARO; now, therefore,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHICAGO:
SECTION 1. Section 2-44-090 of the Code is hereby amended by deleting the struck-through language and inserting the underscored language, as follows:
