Resolution Honoring Angelo and Enzo Pagni
WHEREAS, for 49 years, Sabatino's was a neighborhood institution in the Old Irving Park community, the go-to location for celebrating anniversaries, graduations, and other events of note; and
WHEREAS, the restaurant was opened on Irving Park Road in 1969; and
WHEREAS, Angelo and Enzo Pagni emigrated from Genoa, Italy to Chicago in 1966, finding work cooking for Italian Village and other restaurants around the city; and
WHEREAS, Angelo and Enzo took over Sabatino's on January 1, 1978; and
WHEREAS, Angelo and Enzo maintained Sabatino's high standard for quality food and service through the years, keeping classic dishes like shrimp DeJonghe, oysters Rockefeller, cherries jubilee and others on the menu long after they fell out of fashion elsewhere; and
WHEREAS, Angelo and Enzo consistently supported the neighborhood, providing food to block parties and supporting other neighborhood events; and
WHEREAS, Angelo and Enzo were significant employers in Old Irving Park, retaining some employees for decades in an industry where quick turnover is the norm; and
WHEREAS, despite continued success in their difficult and sometimes fickle business, Angelo and Enzo decided in 2018 to retire, hosting their last dinner service Dec. 23, 2018; and
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Mayor and members ofthe City Council ofthe City of Chicago, gathered here in assembly on April 10, 2019, do hereby express sincere thankfulness to Angelo and Enzo for their decades of contributions to our City as employers, business owners, and keepers of tradition, and offer our heartfelt congratulations on their retirement; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Angelo and Enzo Pagni as a token of our gratitude.
