RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Dr. Elaine Wong has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 91; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A longtime resident of Hyde Park, Dr. Elaine Wong was a widely admired child psychiatrist and the loving wife of Arthur; and
WHEREAS, Born and raised in Honolulu, Elaine Wong was one of seven children of a farm worker; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Elaine Wong graduated from Indiana University and earned a medical degree from the Women's Medical College of Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Elaine Wong completed residencies in pediatrics and psychiatry before entering private practice in Chicago during the mid-1950s; and
WHEREAS, For more than two decades, Dr. Elaine Wong was a volunteer consultant with the Chinese-American Service League's Child Development Center in Chinatown; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Elaine Wong taught preschool teachers at the center how to understand the reasons behind a child's behavior and led monthly case study meetings; and
WHEREAS, With her husband who was a valued member of the Chinese-American Service League's board of directors, Dr. Elaine Wong was awarded the organization's Golden Lion Award in 2014; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Dr. Elaine Wong serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Elaine Wong was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To her husband, Arthur, her son, David, her daughter, Melissa, her two brothers, Robert and Lemuel Chong, and her three grandchildren, Dr. Elaine Wong imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this first day of November, 2016, do hereby commemorate Dr. Elaine Wong for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her...
