SALUTE TO BERNICE PORTER ON THE OCCASION OF HER 75th BIRTHDAY
WHEREAS, Bernice Porter, born April 29, 1938, is one of the most vital citizens in Chicago's great Lawndale and Austin Edgewater communities and who is celebrating her 75th Birthday; and
WHEREAS, Her family, and many friends are gathering Saturday, April 27, 2013 at the Howard Mohr Community Center to pay tribute to Bernice Porter, an enthusiastic, active and much-loved resident of Chicago's great 29th Ward community; and
WHEREAS, Cognizant of the history to which Bernice Porter has both witnessed and contributed, this devoted and cherished friend of many and good neighbor to all, is richly deserving of the adulation and good wishes she is offered as she celebrates her seventy-fifth birthday; and
WHEREAS, Bernice Porter is a remarkable person and an inspiration to all who have reached their golden years and a treasured matriarch to her grateful and loving family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Happily for her community, Bernice Porter has always been mindful of her civic duties and has also involved her energies and talent in numerous organizations. She has been an active member of Hope Community Church for more than 40 years, and in the educational field for the same length of time. Some of her many places of employment have been with Lorraine Hansberry, Daniel Webster and Hope Head Start. Bernice has served in the Austin community for two decades and holds and has held many positions at Hope Community Church; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this joyous occasion by the Honorable Deborah L. Graham, Alderman of the 28th Ward; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this eighth day of May 2013 A.D., do hereby extend our heartfelt wishes to Bernice Porter on her 75th Birthday.
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Bernice Porter.
