RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, The Reverend Michael J. Garanzini, S.J., has announced that he will step down as President and Chief Executive Officer of Loyola University Chicago following 14 years of distinguished service, effective June 30, 2015; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, The Reverend Michael J. Garanzini, S.J., will assume the new role of Chancellor on July 1, 2015, and will advise the President's Office on fundraising for the Advancement Division and consult on international programs; and

WHEREAS, The transition will allow the Reverend Michael J. Garanzini, S.J., more time to focus on his increasing responsibilities as Secretary for Higher Education for the Society of Jesus where he has championed the role of Jesuit education worldwide since 2011; and

WHEREAS, The Reverend Michael J. Garanzini, S.J., is a seasoned academic and administrative leader with a wide breadth of experience and training; and

WHEREAS, The Reverend Michael J. Garanzini, S.J., has served at the nation's most prominent Jesuit institutions of higher learning, including Georgetown, Fordham, Saint Louis and Rockhurst universities; and

WHEREAS, The Reverend Michael J. Garanzini, S.J., is also known for his work on behalf of children and families; and

WHEREAS, The Reverend Michael J. Garanzini, S.J., is a speaker and author specializing in the areas of family therapy and moral development; and

WHEREAS, The exemplary leadership, sacrifice and dedication of the Reverend Michael J. Garanzini, S.J., serve as an example to all; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fifteenth day of April, 2015, do hereby congratulate the Reverend Michael J. Garanzini, S.J., on his outstanding leadership over the past 14 years and do herby extend our best wishes for success in his new role as Chancellor; and
