Resolution
Whereas, The members of the Chicago City Council wish to recognize the many contributions of Ellen Shepard to the Andersonville community; and
Whereas, Ellen Shepard will receive the Mathiasson Community Service Award in recognition of her 16 years of dedicated work as Executive Director of the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce at the Andersonville Honors Gala on March 31, 2016; and
Whereas, The City Council has been notified of this achievement by The Honorable Harry Osterman, Alderman of the 48th Ward; and
Whereas, Ellen Shepard has been a leading advocate for locally owned, independent businesses and ground-breaking environmental sustainability initiatives; and
Whereas, Among her many accomplishments was the creation of the Andersonville Development Corporation to promote the neighborhood's long-term health and Special Service Area #22 to maintain the area's beauty, cleanliness and sense of place; and
Whereas, She spearheaded the growth of the annual Midsommarfest celebration and of numerous other community events that have drawn participants from throughout the city. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this day of March 16, 2016, do hereby express our appreciation to Ellen Shepard for her many years of service and extend our best wishes for success in her future endeavors; and
