MEMORIAL RESOLUTION HONORING SADIE MURRAY
WHEREAS, In His infinite wisdom and judgment God has called to her eternal rest, Sadie Murray, an outstanding citizen and beloved friend, Tuesday, December 17, 2013; and
WHEREAS, This august body has been informed of her passing by the Honorable Anthony Beale, Alderman ofthe 9th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Born in Memphis, Tennessee on November 14,1927 to Sadie Griggs, Sadie Murray was raised by her grandparents after losing her mother when she was 2 months old; and
WHEREAS, After marrying her childhood sweetheart, Johnnie Murray in 1943, Sadie and Johnny Murray moved to Chicago where they opened an ice cream parlor and became the proud parents of eight children; and
WHEREAS, after completing cosmetology school, Sadie Murray opened a beauty shop where she delighted in beautifying her customers until her retirement; and
WHEREAS, Sadie Murray was a vital and active member of her family and community. A good friend and a helpful neighbor to all, she will be sorely missed, but the memory of her character, intelligence and compassion will live on in those who knew and loved her; and
WHEREAS, Sadie Murray leaves to cherish her memory five children - four sons: Robert (Diane), Phil, Johnnie, Darrell and daughter Doris Murray, all of Chicago, Illinois; 25 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by three sons: Alvin, Tyrone and Gregory Murray; now, therefore,
Be it Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members ofthe City Council ofthe City of Chicago, gathered here this fifth day of February, 2014 A.D., do hereby express our sorrow on the passing of Sadie Murray and extend to her family our sincere condolences.
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family of Sadie Murray.
