WHEREAS, Know Your Chicago, a preeminent lecture series which has become a rich part of the cultural fabric of our City, is celebrating the occasion of its 65th Anniversary during 2013; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, Know Your Chicago was founded in 1948 by Mary Ward Wolkonksy, in conjunction with the Women's College Board, an alumnae consortium of the seven Northeast "Sister Schools," and the University of Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Mary Ward Wolkonksy, a visionary leader in arts and culture, was lauded in her lifetime by seven Chicago mayors; and

WHEREAS, Know Your Chicago was originally conceived as an annual training course for women in positions of leadership in Chicago to broaden the scope of their volunteer work and provide them with a deeper knowledge of the City; and

WHEREAS, Know Your Chicago has evolved into an annual fall lecture and tour series designed to promote and expand civic awareness and participation is open to the general public; and

WHEREAS, Know Your Chicago fosters an understanding and appreciation of the complexity, diversity, and richness inherent in our great American City; and

WHEREAS, For sixty-five years, Know Your Chicago has introduced thousands of participants and presenters to provocative topics, including architecture and design, urban planning and development, education, housing and community development, transportation, the environment, health, social change, culture and the arts; and

WHEREAS, On Wednesday, September 11, 2013, in partnership with the University of Chicago Graham School of Continuing Liberal and Professional Studies, Know Your Chicago will celebrate its sixty-fifth season of exploring our City, convening its Annual Symposium at Ida Noyes Hall in Hyde Park, and addressing cutting edge issues that make Chicago a global City; now, therefore
