ORDINANCE
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHICAGO:
SECTION 1. Article III of Chapter 4-232 ofthe Municipal Code of Chicago is hereby amended by inserting the underscored text, as follows:
ARTICLE III. MOTOR VEHICLE SALESROOMS AND RENTAL FACILITIES
(4-232-100 et seq.)
SECTION 2. Article III of Chapter 4-232 ofthe Municipal Code of Chicago is hereby amended by inserting a new section 4-232-115, as follows:
4-232-115 Motor vehicle rental facility defined.
"Motor vehicle rental facility", as used in this chapter, means any building, structure, premises, enclosure or other place within the city where the business of renting new or secondhand automobiles, or any of the parts or accessories thereof, is conducted or operated.
SECTION 3. Article III of Chapter 4-232 ofthe Municipal Code of Chicago is hereby amended by inserting a new section 4-232-125, as follows:
4-232-125 Security Measures- Required.
Key Security. All keys to motor vehicles offered for sale by a motor vehicle salesroom or for rent by a motor vehicle rental facility shall be placed in a secure lockbox inside the salesroom or rental building at all times when the motor vehicle salesroom or rental facility is not open for business.
Dealer Plate Security. Special License Plates issued to dealers by the Illinois Secretary of State, at all times when the motor vehicle salesroom is not open for business, shall be either:
1. secured to a motor vehicle by tamper-resistant security screws, or
2. placed in a secure lockbox inside the salesroom building.
SECTION 4. This ordinance shall take effect following passage and publication.
