RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Edward Duffy has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of sixty-eight; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Mundelein, Edward Duffy was the loving husband of Nancy; and
WHEREAS, Edward Duffy was the much-adored father of Colleen, Meghan, Kelli, Erin, Cara, Tim, Eric, Brent and Scott and the grandfather of eight to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Edward Duffy was a former Chicago police officer who rose to become a veteran state official and widely regarded racetrack executive; and
WHEREAS, Edward Duffy ably served as Deputy Chief of Staff for Governor James R. Thompson and Director of the Illinois Department of Public Aid; and
WHEREAS, Edward Duffy also worked in Springfield as the Director of the Department of Drug and Alcohol Abuse; and
WHEREAS, Edward Duffy left public service to become President of Arlington Park Race Track and was Chief Operating Officer at Sportsman's Park; and
WHEREAS, Edward Duffy was a consultant and lobbyist for Hawthorne Race Track; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Edward Duffy serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Edward Duffy to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Edward Duffy will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Edward Duffy imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fifteenth day of January, 2014, do hereby commemorate Edward Duffy for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
