RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, For the first time in Chicago, there will be a festival honoring Latino musicians on August 19, 2018 at Bunker Hill in Caldwell Woods; and,
WHEREAS, "Leyendas de la Salsa" will celebrate and sponsor this event with live music, featuring locally based salsa bands, Latin jazz, samba dancers, along with Latin American food and art; and,
WHEREAS, Scheduled performers include Mr. Gilberto Diaz, who has been performing for more than 50 years. Born in Puerto Rico, Gilberto Diaz is an ex-member of Gran Combo de Puerto Rico and a great contributor to Chicago's salsa bands; and,
WHEREAS, Also performing are Mr. Manny Martinez, ex-singer of La Sonora for twelve years and now a band leader in Chicago, and Mr. Carlitos (Rey) Garcia, an international singer, who was born and raised in Chicago and a former member of the Tommy Olivencia Band; and,
WHEREAS, These three musicians contribute their time to young Latino musicians with their knowledge and experience, enhancing and promoting the Latino music culture; and now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago gathered here this twentieth day of September 2018 A.D., do hereby congratulate Mr. Gilberto Diaz, Mr. Manny Martinez, and Mr. Carlitos (Rey) Garcia, and members of the Leyendas de la Salsa on their dedication to the Latino music culture; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Mr. Gilberto Diaz, Mr. Manny Martinez, and Mr. Carlitos (Rey) Garcia and the Leyendas de la Salsa members.
