RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, Charlotte Ditka has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 93; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, A longtime resident of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, Charlotte Ditka was the loving wife of the late Mike, a railroad worker, World War II veteran and union president; and

WHEREAS, Many knew Charlotte Ditka as the mother of Hall of Famer Mike Ditka, the legendary professional football player and former coach of the Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints; and

WHEREAS, Charlotte Ditka was equally known in her hilly, rural community as a "very humble, small-town Aliquippa lady;" and

WHEREAS, Charlotte Ditka enjoyed cooking and volunteering in the kitchen at St. Titus Catholic Church where he family worshipped and her children attended school; and

WHEREAS, Charlotte Ditka served on the board of the Linmar Homes, the rowhouse neighborhood where she resided for many decades; and

WHEREAS, Throughout her life, Charlotte Ditka instilled in her sons and daughter a strong faith in God, and the values of hard work and loyalty; and

WHEREAS, Charlotte Ditka will be especially remembered for her wit, humor and generous nature; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Charlotte Ditka serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, Charlotte Ditka will be dearly missed , and fondly remembered by her many relatives, friends and admirers; and

WHEREAS, To her three sons, Mike, Ashton and David, her daughter, Mary Ann, her ten grandchildren and her 15 great-grandchildren, Charlotte Ditka imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eighteenth day of March, 2015, do hereby commemorate Charlotte Ditka for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and
