RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Mary Ann Malloy, M.D. has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 77; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, Beloved wife ofthe late John R. Malloy, loving mother of Robert Malloy and Stephen (Sara] Malloy, dear grandmother of Elliott Malloy, cherished daughter ofthe late James and Bernadine Malone, fond aunt, friend, doctor and colleague to many; and

WHEREAS, Mary Ann was a distinguished Internal Medicine Physician and Foundation Trustee at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital and a nationally recognized medical correspondent with NBC 5 Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Born Mary Ann Malone in Oak Park, Mary Ann grew up in River Forest and earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Vassar College in 1963 and then earned a medical degree from Northwestern University in 1967; and

WHEREAS, Mary Ann did her residency at Cook County Hospital and in 1972 began working at Elmhurst Hospital-as an internist with a focus on cardiac care; and

WHEREAS, In 1987 and 1988, Mary Ann was the president ofthe American Heart Association of Metropolitan Chicago, where she organized a committee on women and heart disease, and helped organize the first Women and Heart Disease conference in Chicago in 1991; and

WHEREAS, In 1992, Mary Ann began hosting a live health information segment on Channel 5 during Sunday morning newscasts, titled "What's Up Doc?" later to be renamed "Living Well", where she greatly enjoyed using her expertise and communication skills to explain medical concepts to TV viewers; and

WHEREAS, Mary Ann took on other publicly visible roles such as writing a column for the Daily Southtown newspaper, and lobbying for Oak Brook's fire department to start having paramedics on staff after she attended a Fourth of July event in the village and helped treat a man who had been shooting off fireworks and suffered a major injury; and
