RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Michael McElroy has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 63; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Michael McElroy was the Mayor of Decatur and the loving husband for 35 years of Lynn; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Michael McElroy was the much-adored father of Matt to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Michael McElroy was the dear brother of Pat, Tim and Ellen; and
WHEREAS, Born in 1952 in Aurora, the Honorable Michael McElroy graduated from St. Teresa High School and earned an associate's degree from Danville Area Community College; and
WHEREAS, An active civic leader and a 26-year resident of Decatur, the Honorable Michael McElroy served from 2003 to 2009 as a member of the City Council before being elected Mayor; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Michael McElroy was credited with improving the City's water supply and building a new police station; and
WHEREAS, Above all else, the Honorable Michael McElroy was a true champion for the blue-collar community and was hailed as an affable leader who "never met a stranger"; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Michael McElroy worked in his private life as a Vice President of Sales for Skeff Distributing Company; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Michael McElroy serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable Michael McElroy to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Michael McElroy was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
