RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Samuel Bodman has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 79; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A native of Chicago, Samuel Bodman was our nation's 11th Secretary of Energy and the loving husband of Diane and the late Elizabeth; and
WHEREAS, A chemical engineer and businessman, Samuel Bodman graduated from Cornell University before receiving a doctorate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; and
WHEREAS, Samuel Bodman served as Secretary of Energy under President George W. Bush from 2005 to 2009; and
WHEREAS, Samuel Bodman also served as Deputy Secretary of both the U.S. Treasury and Commerce Departments under President Bush; and
WHEREAS, Samuel Bodman was President of Fidelity Investments before becoming Chief Executive Officer of Cabot Corporation, a Boston-based company that manufactures specialty chemicals; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Samuel Bodman serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Samuel Bodman to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Samuel Bodman was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Samuel Bodman imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twentieth day of September, 2018, do hereby commemorate Samuel Bodman for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
