RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Daniel Santana, CFD Engineer, will retire on November 21, 2016, after serving 27 years of outstanding and meritorious service to the residents of the City of Chicago; and,
WHEREAS, Daniel graduated from Lake View High School in 1972, and later, graduated from Southern-Illinois University at Edwardsville; and,
WHEREAS, Daniel's athletic abilities in wrestling, earned him a position in the 1979 Pan American Games, and in 1981, won the Silver medal at the Central American Games; and in February 2014, he was inducted into the SlUe Athletic Hall of Fame; and,
WHEREAS, From 1981 through 1989, Daniel was employed at the Cook County Assessor's Office; and,
WHEREAS, Following his dream of becoming a firefighter, Daniel graduated in May, 1990 from the Chicago Fire Academy, and shortly thereafter was assigned to Truck 25 in Rogers Park. In March of 2014, Daniel was promoted to Engineer. He also worked at Truck 56, Engine 110 and Engine 108; and,
WHEREAS, While serving as a firefighter, Daniel's passion for wrestling prompted him to teach young adults the art of wrestling and became a Chicago Public School wrestling coach. During the years of 1990-1994, he was the Assistant Coach at Lake View High School, 1994-1999, he was the Assistant Coach at Mather High School, and from 1999-2005, he was the Head Coach at Northside College Prep; and,
WHEREAS, Daniel married the love of his life, Evelyn (Ellie), and through this marriage had three children; Celena, Alyssa, and Jason; and,
WHEREAS, Throughout his many years of service, Daniel has served the people of this City with fairness, compassion, dedication, and a willingness to help and volunteer, he has earned the respect and admiration of those for his knowledge and personal attention, and he will be missed by all; and now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this first day of November 2016 A.D., do hereby extend to Daniel Santan...
