RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Mary Richardson-Lowry, a dedicated civic leader, is preparing to complete her distinguished tenure as President of the Chicago Board of Education; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Mary Richardson-Lowry was first appointed to the Chicago Board of Education on January 28, 2010; and
WHEREAS, On February 24, 2010, Mary Richardson-Lowry was elected by her fellow Board Members to serve as the President of the Board of Education of the City of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Mary Richardson-Lowry came to this position of leadership after a remarkable record of achievement in public service; and
WHEREAS, Mary Richardson-Lowry previously served in the public sector as the Buildings Commissioner for the City of Chicago where she managed a multi-million dollar budget and hundreds of employees charged with enforcing local regulatory obligations; and
WHEREAS, Mary Richardson-Lowry also served as Senior Assistant to Mayor Richard M. Daley, and Senior Supervising Attorney and Assistant Corporation Counsel for the City of Chicago, during which time she was the lead negotiator for the creation of the 911 Emergency Communications Center; and
WHEREAS, Mary Richardson-Lowry serves on the Children's Advocacy Center Board and is a Commissioner on the Public Building Commission of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Mary Richardson-Lowry is a member of numerous civic and community organizations and has received a host of honors and awards; and
WHEREAS, Along with her fellow board members, Mary Richardson-Lowry has worked to ensure that Chicago's public schools provide all students with an excellent academic foundation and a safe learning environment; and
WHEREAS, Mary Richardson-Lowry is an individual who is exceedingly worthy of our great admiration and esteem; now, therefore
