TRIBUTE TO REVEREND ROBERT J. MCGEE, SR,
WHEREAS, Almighty God in His Infinite Wisdom has rewarded Reverend Robert James McGee, Sr. with eternal life after almost four score and 17 years of a temporal life well spent; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Robert James McGee started life on May 3, 1916 as the seventh of 13 children born to the union of Simon and Margaret McGee. He was graduated from Carter Elementary School and Englewood High School, matriculated to Lewis Institute and Wilson Junior City College, and studied pre-law at John Marshall Law School; and
WHEREAS, A proud member of the Greatest Generation, he served his country during World War II as Warrant Officer Junior Grade in the European Theatre for the U.S. Army and acted as an interpreter while in France, retiring from the Army on August 31, 1946 after being decorated with the World War II Victory Medal along with the Europe-Africa-Middle Eastern Service ribbon with two bronze stars and three oversees bars; and
WHEREAS, Reverend McGee joined with the Apostolic Church of God, then under the spiritual guidance of its founder, Elder Walter Clemons, and was baptized there in April of 1932. He attended Sunday School, Bible Class and also served as a janitor. He received the gift of the Holy Spirit on October 17, 1940, and continued to teach Sunday Morning Bible Study until September 22, 2013; and
WHEREAS, On June 3, 1941, Reverend Robert James McGee was called to the ministry and received his minister's license in the following month. He became the Assistant Pastor of the Apostolic Church of God in 1949 and continued to serve in that capacity for the next 64 years; and
WHEREAS Reverend Robert James McGee leaves behind, to mourn his passing and celebrate his life his wife, Willa; his three children, Robert, Jr., Leonard, and LaVern; his stepdaughter, Karmine Hillman and his sister, Alfredia McDade along with four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren as well as a host of nephews, godchildren and many close frie...
