RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Jack Lavin, a widely admired public servant, has announced the completion of his tenure as Chief of Staff for Illinois Governor Pat Quinn; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, Raised in Elmhurst, Jack Lavin is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Illinois at Champaign and holds masters degrees in business and international relations from the University of Chicago; and
 
WHEREAS, Jack Lavin was a dedicated member of state leadership; and
 
WHEREAS, Jack Lavin was named Chief of Staff in December of 2010 and has stepped down from the post to pursue opportunities in the private sector; and
 
WHEREAS, During his esteemed career in state government, Jack Lavin was the Director of the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity where he championed growth in exports and biotechnology industries; and
 
WHEREAS, Jack Lavin was also Chief Operating Officer for Illinois where he oversaw the disbursement of federal stimulus money and spearheaded the "Illinois Jobs Now!" capital construction program; and
 
WHEREAS, As Deputy Treasurer of the state from 1993 to 1995, Jack Lavin was directly responsible for all investment strategies and programs in the office's $5 billion investment portfolio; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Jack Lavin serve as an example to all; now, therefore
 
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this sixteenth day of October, 2013, do hereby express our sincere appreciation to Jack Lavin for his dedicated service and do hereby express our best wishes for his continued success in all of his future endeavors; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Jack Lavin.
