Resolution
Whereas, the Academy of the Sacred Heart for Girls was founded in Chicago in 1876 by the Religious of the Sacred Heart (RSCJ) in keeping with the vision of St. Madeleine Sophie Barat; and
Whereas, the Religious of the Sacred Heart built the school on Sheridan Road in 1929 for the ongoing purpose of educating young women; and
Whereas, the Religious of the Sacred Heart founded Hardey Preparatory for Boys on Sheridan Road in 1935 for the purpose of educating young men; and
Whereas, Sacred Heart Schools, Chicago's oldest Catholic independent school, is rooted in the Catholic tradition and warmly welcomes students of all faiths and cultural backgrounds; and
Whereas, Sacred Heart Schools is committed to the development of faith, intellect, community, service and personal growth of each student as set forth in the Schools' guiding principles, the Goals and Criteria; and
Whereas, Sacred Heart Schools on Sheridan Road has an alumnae/i population numbering nearly 6,000 and is also part of a global network of 200 schools; and
Whereas, Sacred Heart Schools has been an integral part of the Edgewater community for nearly a century and is a service partner to many neighborhood social service organizations;
Now, be it resolved, that the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this 19th day of April, 2017, do hereby honor Sacred Heart Schools for its contributions to the community.
Be it further resolved that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Sacred Heart Schools.
