Commendation of Chicago Votes
 
Whereas, an engaged electorate is the foundation of good government, and;
 
Whereas, It is in the best interest of Democracy to eliminate unnecessary barriers to voter registration and ensure the participation of all those eligible to cast a ballot on Election Day, and;
 
Whereas, Young Chicagoans between the ages of 18 and 25 have traditionally been among the least engaged in the Democratic process, and;
 
Whereas, Chicago Votes seeks to engage this overlooked cohort by increasing awareness ofthe electoral process, working with community groups to provide greater outreach, and simplifying the voter registration process, and;
 
Whereas, Chicago Votes has been a staunch advocate for the modernization of the voter registration process in the City of Chicago and the State of Illinois, and;
 
Whereas, Chicago Votes played an instrumental role in the passage in the Illinois General Assembly of a law establishing online voter registration in Illinois and ushering in a new era of civic engagement,
 
Be it resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, present here this 24th day of July, 2013, do hereby commend Chicago Votes on their efforts to make the electoral process accessible to all, and
 
Be it further resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be provided to the leadership of Chicago Votes.
