RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Gene Saffold, a highly regarded expert in the field of municipal finance, is preparing to complete his distinguished tenure as Chief Financial Officer for the City of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Chicago, Gene Saffold was raised in the West Chesterfield neighborhood on the city's South Side; and
WHEREAS, Gene Saffold earned his undergraduate degree from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota and his master's in business administration from the University of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Prior to being named by Mayor Richard M. Daley to serve as Chicago's Chief Financial Officer in 2009, Gene Saffold was employed by JP Morgan Chase & Company, where he was Managing Director for National Accounts; and
WHEREAS, As Chief Financial Officer for the City of Chicago, Gene Saffold worked to maintain the city's overall financial wellbeing while creating long-term fiscal plans, monitoring and improving city pension funds, and managing the city's credit rating; and
WHEREAS, During his esteemed tenure with the city, Gene Saffold helped to maintain Chicago's financial stability despite the recession and worked to protect taxpayers already burdened by difficult economic times; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council assembled this fourth day of May, 2011, do hereby express our sincere gratitude to Gene Saffold for his years of dedicated public service on behalf of the people of Chicago and do herby extend our best wishes for his success in all of his future endeavors; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Gene Saffold.
