MEMORIAL RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that members of this Chamber learned of the death of Anne Maloney nee McDonnell at the age of ninety-two; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of her passing by the Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Anne was a native of Kilbride, Swinford, County Mayo Ireland born July 7, 1924 to the late Mary McNeela and James McDonnell. She was the beloved wife of Patrick Maloney. Loving mother of Mary (James) D'Amico, Anne (Maloney) Clark, Lt. James Maloney, Irene (Lt. William) Duffy, Capt. Thomas Maloney, BC, and Patrick (Carmel) Maloney. Cherished grandmother of Ryan, Meagan, Brianna, Kaitlynn, J.P., Patrick Joseph, Kyle, Eamonn, Conor, Dylan, Liam, Tara, Colm, Brigid and Rory. Great grandmother of Johnny. Dear sister of Margaret McDonnell, Kathleen Gavaghan and the late John, Mick, Pat, Jim, May and Martin; and treasured friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Mary leaves a legacy of faith, dignity and love; and
WHEREAS, When she was 17, Anne left Ireland to become a war nurse during WWII in London, England. She heroically survived "The Blitz", a series of heavy air attacks in 1940, carried out over London during WWII; and
WHEREAS, Anne moved to Chicago in October, 1948. Two weeks later, she met the love of her life, Patrick, who was also from Swinford County, Ireland. For the next 50 years, she would remain a devoted member of St. Edward's Parish and an enthusiastic volunteer at the Irish American Heritage Center, where she loved the Francis O'Neil club and weekly Ceili dance sessions; and
WHEREAS, She was a vital member of her community who touched the lives of all who knew her through her kindness, generosity and spirit. Mary will be deeply missed, but the memory of her character, intelligence and compassion will live on in those who knew and loved her; now, therefore,
