PROCLAMATION HONORING THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE AIDS HEALTHCARE FOUNDATION
WHEREAS, The AIDS Healthcare Foundation or AHF, is the largest global AIDS organization — which now provides HIV/AIDS care and services, including antiretroviral treatment, to more than 821,000 people in 38 countries; and
WHEREAS, AHF will mark its anniversary throughout the end of 2017 with global events, including screenings of the film, 'Keeping the Promise—AHF 30 Years;' and
WHEREAS, AHF has made a commitment to bring new and needed resources to the Chicago Metropolitan area to fight the HIV/AIDS epidemic; and
WHEREAS, AHF has established a presence in the African American community through its affiliation with the South Side Help Center; and
WHEREAS, AHF has established a presence in the Latino community through its affiliation with CALOR, Comprension y Apoyo a Latinos en Oposicio al Retrovirus; and
WHEREAS, AHF in Chicago will hold a community reception on Thursday, November 30th at Malcolm X College to observe its 30th anniversary from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, that the Chicago City Council recognizes the work which the AIDS Healthcare Foundation has performed globally, and in the City of Chicago, Illinois,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Chicago City Council recognizes the two affiliates in Chicago: South Side Help Center and CALOR (Comprension y Apoyo a Latinos en Oposicion al Retrovirus) through which AHF delivers on its promise
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the City Council of the City of Chicago gathered here this twenty-first day of November, 2017 do hereby declare November 30th, 2017 as "AHF Day" in the City of Chicago, honoring 30 years of vital work by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation and their partners.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, the South Side Help Center and CALOR.
