MEMORIAL RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that members of this Chamber learned of the death of Elsie M. Gibbs, nee Bauer, on December 3, 2013, at the age of eighty-two; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of her passing by The Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, An active and vital member of her community, born on October 30, 1931, Elsie was the beloved wife of Donald; loving mother of David (Carolina) and Janet North (Michael Friedman); dear grandmother of Martin, Cora and Andrew Gibbs; dear daughter of the late Lawrence and the late Emma, nee Neukam, Bauer; cherished sister of the late Arthur, the late Philmore, the late Amos, the late Bertha, the late Lena and the late Frances; treasured aunt to many nieces and nephews; and
WHEREAS, Born on October 30, 1931 in Shoals, Indiana, Elsie graduated from Shoals Community High School in 1950, and married her husband in December that same year. She worked at Komar Screw Corporation and Gibbs Plumbing and Sewer Services, Inc. In addition to her work she enjoyed spending time with her family and volunteered at her church and her grandchildren's grade school. As a wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, Elsie leaves a legacy of faith, dignity and love; and
WHEREAS, Elsie will be deeply missed, but the memory of her character, intelligence and compassion will live on in those who knew and loved her; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago gathered here this fifteenth day of January 2014, do hereby express our sorrow on the death of Elsie M. Gibbs and express to her family and friends our deepest sympathy; and
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Elsie M. Gibbs as a token of our honor, gratitude, and respect.
