RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Chicago's Lookingglass Theatre has been named the recipient of the 2011 Tony Award for Best Regional Theatre; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this accomplishment by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Lookingglass is the fifth Chicago theater company to receive this award and distinguishes Chicago as receiving this honor more than any other city in America; and
WHEREAS, Housed in the historic Water Tower building, the Lookingglass Theatre was founded by a group of drama students from Northwestern University and has been a staple of the Chicago artistic experience for nearly twenty-five years; and
WHEREAS, The twenty-two person ensemble that comprises the Lookingglass Theatre is known for creating bold interpretations of non-dramatic material, including numerous works of classic literature; and
WHEREAS, The Lookingglass Theatre brings an element of risk to every production, often thrilling audiences with daring physical acrobatics; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this sixth day of July, 2011, do hereby congratulate the Lookingglass Theatre on having received the 2011 Tony Award for Best Regional Theatre and do hereby express our gratitude for the cultural enrichment its ensemble has provided to Chicagoans for nearly a quarter century; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Andrew White, Artistic Director of the Lookingglass Theatre.
