RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable John F. Grady has announced his retirement as a United States District Judge following 39 years of highly distinguished service to the Northern District of Illinois; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable John F. Grady graduated from Northwestern University with his bachelor's degree in 1952 and graduated from Northwestern Law School with his Juris Doctor degree in 1954; and
 
WHEREAS, Prior to his appointment as a United States District Court Judge in 1975, the Honorable John F. Grady served from 1956 to 1961 as Chief of the Criminal Division in the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Illinois; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable John F. Grady was an attorney in private practice from 1954 to 1956 and from 1961 to 1975; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable John -F. Grady was first appointed to the bench on November 21,1975 by then-President Gerald R. Ford; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable John F. Grady was named Chief Judge of the Northern District of Illinois and served in that position from July 1, 1986 until June 30, 1990; and
 
WHEREAS, Throughout his long and illustrious career, the Honorable John F. Grady has upheld the highest and most noble traditions of public service; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable John F. Grady serve as an example to all; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and die members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fifteenth day of April, 2015, do hereby congratulate the Honorable John F. Grady on his retirement and do hereby express our appreciation for his exemplary service as a widely admired member of the judicial community; and
 
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of tliis resolution be presented to die Honorable John F. Grady.
