RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, David F. Vite, a widely admired business and civic leader, has announced his decision to retire after a distinguished thirty-five year career with the Illinois Retail Merchants Association (IRMA); and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of the University of Wisconsin at LaCrosse, David F. Vite is the devoted husband of Jane and the loving father of Amanda and Gretchen; and
WHEREAS, David F. Vite joined IRMA in 1978 as a Field Representative and later rose to the position of Manager of Member Relations where he oversaw membership and program development; and
WHEREAS, David F. Vite was named IRMA's Vice President for Government Affairs in 1981 and directed all legislative and government affairs so effectively that Grain's Chicago Business lauded him as "the best Illinois lobbyist"; and
WHEREAS, Named Executive Vice President in 1983, David F. Vite assumed the office of President in 1985 and steered IRMA through three decades of growth and innovation; and
WHEREAS, David F. Vite has held prestigious appointments to philanthropic boards, legislative committees and professional development organizations; and
WHEREAS, David F. Vite has inspired many with his tireless commitment to excellence and dedication to the economic vitality of our great metropolis; and
WHEREAS, In all of his roles, David F. Vite has shared his spirit of leadership, wisdom and insight with many in Chicago and beyond; and
WHEREAS, Friends, family, colleagues and distinguished members of the business community will gather for an evening gala on September 18, 2013, to recognize David F. Vite for his outstanding leadership by naming him the "2013 Retailer of the Year"; now, therefore
