TRIBUTE TO THE LIFE OF HAYES BAZAAR THOMPSON
WHEREAS, Almighty God, in His Infinite Wisdom has granted Hayes Bazaar Thompson, an outstanding public servant and member of his community eternal peace; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been apprised of Hayes Bazaar Thompson's passing by Michelle A. Harris, Alderman of the 8th Ward and Chairman ofthe Committee on Committees, Rules and Ethics; and
WHEREAS, Hayes Bazaar Thompson started on his life journey in Lenapah, Oklahoma on May 20, 1923 as the loving son born to the union of Hayes and Octavia Thompson. He was the seventh child of eleven children who blessed the Thompson Family home; and
WHEREAS, At a very young age, Hayes developed the fondness for the saxophone which turned into the love of Jazz and a significant collection of jazz music; and
WHEREAS, In 1945 Hayes moved to Chicago and made it his home. He did various jobs until he was employed with Mr. Kelly's Jazz Club, which is presently known as Gibson's Steakhouse. Hayes had the pleasure of meeting a host of interesting people including the Cook County Commissioner and 8lh Ward Committeeman John H. Stroger. Hayes began to have an interest in politics. He was a vital and active member of his community and enjoyed helping people. He served his community and the citizens of the 8th ward for 40 years as a Precinct Captain, President ofthe 8800 S. Cornell Street Block Club and President ofthe 8th Ward Democratic Party. After 35 years of dedicated service Mr. Thompson retired from the City of Chicago as Deputy Commissioner of Streets and Sanitation supervising Solid Waste Management for the Southern District; and
WHEREAS, To his loving wife, children, grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren Hayes Bazaar Thompson imparts a legacy of love, faithfulness, service and dignity; and
WHEREAS, Hayes Bazaar Thompson was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend. He leaves to cherish his memory and celebrate his life his wife of ...
