City Council October 14, 2015
RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Dr. Maximo O. Brito, MD, MPH. was born in the Dominican Republic and graduated from the medical school Instituto Tecnologico de Santo Domingo (INTEC); and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Brito became Chief Medical Resident of internal medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami. Following his residency, he completed a fellowship in infectious diseases at the University of Miami School of Medicine. Dr. Brito furthered his education and earned a Master's Degree in Public Health from the University of Illinois; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Brito was recipient of "Resident of the Year" award, the Paul J. Furlong Award for excellence in medicine, the Maimonides Humanitarian Award for service to his patients, the annual Certificate of Excellence at the University of Illinois in teaching seven times, and was awarded the Clifford Pilz Attending ofthe Year award; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Brito has also been recognized as the Outstanding Resident ofthe Year by the Florida Chapter of the American College of Physicians, and by the American Medical Association, with the AMA Foundation Leadership Award; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Brito was named Distinguished Alumnus by INTEC University; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Brito is an Associate Professor and Vice Chair for Urban Global Health in the Department of Medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He is also Chief of Infectious Diseases at the Jesse Brown Veteran's Administration Hospital in Chicago; and,
WEHERAS, Dr. Brito has been a great inspiration in the Chicago area, with his care of patients infected with HIV and his scholarly work on HIV prevention in men; and,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this 14th day of October, 2015 A.D., do hereby congratulate Dr. Maximo O. Brito, MD, MPH. on his dedication and service; and,
