RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, James W. Gee, Sr., has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of ninety-three; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A longtime resident of Orland Park, James W. Gee, Sr., was the loving and devoted husband of Helen; and
WHEREAS, James W. Gee, Sr. was the much-adored father of James, Jr., and Nancy to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities which he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, James W. Gee, Sr., was the devoted grandfather of five and the great-grandfather of nine; and
WHEREAS, James W. Gee, Sr., founded Gee Lumber and Hardware Company, which included a dozen stores in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs; and
WHEREAS, James W. Gee, Sr., shaped the kind of home center store later made common by large corporations such as Home Depot and Menards; and
WHEREAS, James W. Gee, Sr., also developed Orland Park's first shopping mall in the 1950s; and
WHEREAS, James W. Gee, Sr., inspired the lives of countless people through his great personal goodness, charity and concern; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of James W. Gee, Sr., serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, James W. Gee, Sr., will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and colleagues; and
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, James W. Gee, Sr., imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirteenth day of April, 2011, do hereby commemorate James W. Gee, Sr., for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of James W. Gee, Sr. /
