RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Located in a century-old neighborhood on Chicago's northwest side, the Villa is characterized by parkway streets, stone planters and distinctive examples of early 20th Century residential architecture; and,
WHEREAS, The Villa is on the National Register of Historic Places as well as a recognized City of Chicago Historic Landmark District; and,
WHEREAS, Each year the Commission on Chicago Landmarks and the Department of Housing and Economic Development Historic Preservation Division honors outstanding projects that involve notable improvements in individual Chicago Landmarks or to buildings within Chicago Landmark Districts; and,
WHEREAS, On May 1, 2013, the Commission on Chicago Landmarks presented a Preservation Excellence Award to William Chamberlain and Howard Heyman for their two-story Arts and Crafts single family house, located at 3756 North Harding Avenue, in the Historic Villa District; and,
WHEREAS, Many of the home's features had been hidden beneath exterior alterations. The owners removed the permastone veneer that was applied at the first floor level and replaced it with stucco. Non-historic porches at the front and rear of the house were also removed. They replaced the existing front porch with one that matched the original porch. At the rear, the original "sleeping" porch was reconstructed. Additionally, existing non-historic windows on the front facade were removed and replaced with new windows to match the original; and now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members ofthe City Council ofthe City of Chicago gathered here this eighth day of May 2013 AD, do hereby congratulate William Chamberlain and Howard Heyman on winning the 2013 Preservation Excellence Award; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to William Chamberlain and Howard Heyman.
