RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Milo Hamilton has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 88; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Milo Hamilton was a legendary Hall of Fame sportscaster and the loving husband for more than fifty years of the late Arlene; and
WHEREAS, Milo Hamilton was the much-adored father of Mark and the late Patricia to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Milo Hamilton served for 27 years as the play-by-play radio announcer for the Houston Astros; and
WHEREAS, Known for his classic radio voice and the popular catch phrase, "Holy Toledo," Milo Hamilton broadcast major league baseball games for seven teams over six decades, including 11 no-hitters; and
WHEREAS, In addition to the Houston Astros, Milo Hamilton was a broadcaster for the St. Louis Browns, St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, the Braves and Pittsburgh Pirates; and
WHEREAS, Milo Hamilton famously broadcast Hank Aaron's record-breaking 715th home run in 1974, and as the slugger crossed the plate, used his highly memorable voice to declare him "the home-run king of all-time"; and
WHEREAS, Other unforgettable highlights of Milo Hamilton's career included calling Nolan Ryan's 4,000th strikeout as well as Craig Biggio's 3,000th hit in 2007; and
WHEREAS, Milo Hamilton retired from the broadcast booth following the 2012 season, but had continued to serve as guest radio commentator for select Houston home games; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, talent and dedication of Milo Hamilton serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Milo Hamilton to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Milo Hamilton was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly ...
