RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The mission of the Substance Abuse Prevention Program Multi-Neighborhood Pilot is to target risk and protective factors for alcohol and other substance use and abuse at the individual, family and environmental levels through a comprehensive approach, including individual programming, media campaigns and advocacy; and
WHEREAS, This is done with collaboration with City agencies in the participating communities of Back-of-the-Yards, Brighton Park, Bridgeport, and Englewood, all within Chicago Police District 9; and
WHEREAS, The goals of the SAPP Multi-Neighborhood Pilot are to prevent adolescent substance use particularly relating to alcohol; decrease rates of alcohol, tobacco and other substance abuse among young adults and youth; build capacity at the community-level to address substance abuse-related issues; promote health and well-being in Chicago by replication of the Multi-Neighborhood Pilot; and
WHEREAS, The objectives of the SAPP Multi-Neighborhood Pilot include but are not limited to, increasing awareness of the negative effects of alcohol use with a focus on youth from 11 to 19 within the 54 schools in the Pilot Communities; and
WHEREAS, Engaging in Public Education Campaign around youth and adolescent alcohol use prevention; partnering with Chicago Public Schools to incorporate alcohol prevention into health and science curriculum at the middle school and high school level; and
WHEREAS, Partnering with Chicago Park District to promote healthy activities and enforcement of alcohol ordinances in Chicago Parks; partnering with other Chicago agencies (CTA, CHA, FSS, CDPH) to inundate neighborhoods with alcohol prevention messaging; and
