CONGRATULATING GEJA'S CAFE ON THEIR 50th ANNIVERSARY
WHEREAS, Geja's Cafe opened on Wells Street in 1965 and moved to 340 W. Armitage in Lincoln Park in 1971; and
WHEREAS, Geja's features more than 20 different types of fondue entrees, include cheese fondue and chocolate desert fondue; and
WHEREAS, Geja's Cafe's fondue has its origins in the vineyards of Europe when during the grape harvest, land owners placed heated pots of oil in the fields so workers could eat a hot meal without having to leave the vineyard; and
WHEREAS, The shared experience of fondue brings people together and Geja's Cafe is regularly voted one of Chicago's most romantic restaurants; and
WHEREAS, Geja's has been home to dozens of proposals and hundreds of anniversaries, birthdays and other celebrations; and
WHEREAS, Geja's Cafe is one of Chicago's most admired restaurants and is a favorite indulgence for Chicagoans and visitors alike; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Michele Smith, Alderman of the 43rd Ward, has apprised this august body of the restaurant's importance to the Lincoln Park community as it celebrates 50 years in business; now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the Chicago City Council, gathered here this sixth day of May, 2015, do hereby congratulate Geja's Cafe on it's 50th anniversary and extend our very best wishes for continued success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Geja's Cafe.
