TRIBUTE TO THE LATE RABBI DANIEL MOSCOWITZ

A resolution adopted by the City Council of the City of Chicago, sponsored by Alderman Debra L, Silverstein, 50th Ward -

WHEREAS, The members of the City Council are saddened to learn of the death of Rabbi Daniel Moscowitz of Chicago, passed away on March 4, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Rabbi Moscowitz was born on the North Side to Frank (Ephraim) and Cynthia (Tzivia) Moscowitz; he attended Bais Yaakov, a local Jewish day school, and he followed in his father's footsteps, studying at yeshivas in Montreal, Canada and Brooklyn; he was selected to serve as a senior student at the Chabad yeshiva in Brunoy, France; he married Esther Rochel Aronow and returned to Chicago; he joined the Congregation Anshei Lubavitch synagogue and founded the Tannenbaum Chabad House, serving Jewish students at Northwestern University; and

WHEREAS, Rabbi Moscowitz was the regional director of Lubavitch-Chabad of Illinois and spearheaded the growth of Chabad-Lubavitch centers to nearly 40 locations in 21 Illinois cities, with schools and services for seniors and children with special needs; and

WHEREAS, Rabbi Moscowitz helped open a new synagogue on Chicago's far North Side in the summer of 1995, Bais Menahem Nusach Ari, and in 2000, he moved his family to Northbrook to open a new Chabad center; most recently, he oversaw the opening of a new Chabad center in Carbondale; and

WHEREAS, Rabbi Moscowitz was active in Jewish communal leadership on a national and global level; he was chairman of the executive committee of the Chicago Rabbinical Council; a member of the executive committee of Merkos L'lnyonei Chinuch, the educational arm of Chabad-Lubavitch; a visible leader of the International Conference of Chabad Emissaries; and a regular at Hanukkah menorah-lighting ceremonies at Daley Plaza; and

WHEREAS, Rabbi Moscowitz is survived by his wife, Esther; his children, Shterna Sara Newman, Rabbi Meir Shimon Moscowitz, Rabbi Yosef Shmuel Moscowitz, Rabbi Yehos...
