RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Dr. Eugene Cullen Kennedy has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 86; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Benton Harbor, Michigan, Dr. Eugene Cullen Kennedy was a renowned author, psychologist and theologian; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Eugene Cullen Kennedy was ordained in the Maryknoll religious ©rder in 1955 and earned a doctorate in psychology from Catholic University in 1962; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Eugene Cullen Kennedy was laicized in 1977 and married Dr. Sara Charles, a professor of clinical psychiatry at the University of Illinois; and
WHEREAS, A prolific writer, Dr. Eugene Cullen Kennedy authored more than 30 fiction and non-fiction books, including biographies of Joseph Cardinal Bernardin and Mayor Richard J. Daley; and
WHEREAS, The themes of Dr. Eugene Cullen Kennedy's books included religious innovation and renewal and the Irish Catholic experience in Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Born in New York, Dr. Eugene Cullen Kennedy was also a member of the board of directors of the Long Island-based King Kullen Grocery Company, a supermarket chain operated by his family; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Dr. Eugene Cullen Kennedy serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Eugene Cullen Kennedy was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his loving wife, Dr. Sara, and his brother, Bernard, Dr. Eugene Cullen Kennedy imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this seventeenth day of June, 2015, do hereby commemorate Dr. Eugene Cullen Kennedy for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
