Resolution Commemorating the 20th Pastoral Anniversary of
Reverend Leon Perry, III
WHEREAS, Metropolitan Community Church held its first service at Unity Hall on October 3,1920 lead by the church's founder Dr. William Decatur Cook; and
WHEREAS, Sunday worship services were held at the historic Wendell Phillips High School until 1927 when the church moved to 4100-06 South Parkway - now known as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive -before temporarily returning to Phillips High School in 1996 until their current building at 4610 S. Prairie Ave. was completed in 2001; and
WHEREAS, The church was founded on the belief that the Gospel is for everyone, regardless of denomination; and
WHEREAS, For the last 20 years Reverend Leon Perry, III has continued this vision as the Pastor of Metropolitan Community Church, bringing the word of the Lord to countless parishioners and community members; and
WHEREAS; Under Reverend Perry's vision, Metropolitan Community Church hosts a weekly food pantry, youth activities, Real Men Read programs, health fairs, senior activities, nursing home visits and incarceration ministries; and
WHEREAS, He has extended the Church's outreach to Ghana where he has built libraries and dormitories for orphans and water wells for the local villages; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Perry's thoughtful leadership has brought joy to the church and taught the congregation to be deeply committed, not just to God, but to the community through thoughtful actions done in service to the community; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the City Council members of the City of Chicago hereby assembled on this the 22nd day of June, 2016, do hereby congratulate Reverend Leon Perry, III on his 20th Pastoral Anniversary leading Metropolitan Community Church; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Reverend Leon Perry, III and the members of Metropolitan Community Church.
