GRATITUDE EXTENDED TO ALBANY PARK COMMUNITY CENTER FOOD PANTRY
WHEREAS, On Friday, November 18, 2016 volunteers and friends of the Albany Park Community Center Food Pantry gathered to celebrate its twentieth anniversary and complete its final day of service; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Margaret Laurino; and
WHEREAS, The food pantry opened on November 15, 1996 as a collaboration led by Sauganash resident Marge Conway and the support of the Albany Park Community Center, Queen of All Saints Parish, the Greater Chicago Food Depository and Alderman Laurino; and
WHEREAS, in its first two months of operation, the food pantry served 656 families. That number grew to 18,000 by 1998, and 61,000 by 2008. The number of families served has continued to grow in the years since; and
WHEREAS, The Albany Park Community Center Food Pantry was completely staffed by tireless volunteers who gave generously of their time and talents helping to serve the needs of their grateful community; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and the members of the City Council of the City of Chicago gathered here this fourteenth day of December, 2016 do hereby extend our thanks, gratitude, and appreciation to the volunteers of the Albany Park Food Pantry for serving the community for 20 years; and
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the volunteers and coordinators of the Albany Park Community Center Food Pantry.
